Thirty minutes and a world away from Cabo's party, San José del Cabo keeps its colonial plaza, its mission church and a celebrated Gallery District. Bougainvillea spills over historic façades, chefs cook from the surrounding farms, and a birdwatchers' estuary meets the sea at the town's edge.
The Art District
The historic center is one of Mexico's great small art scenes. Every Thursday evening (Nov–Jun) the Art Walk opens gallery doors with wine, music and artists in residence along Álvaro Obregón and Comonfort.
Estuary & plaza
The Estero San José is a freshwater lagoon and bird sanctuary where the desert meets the sea. In town, the 1730s mission church anchors a jacaranda-shaded plaza of cafés and boutiques.
Best Beaches
The town's easy longboard wave in front of Cabo Surf Hotel — lessons and a great beach café.
The corridor's best-known surf break; sandy, scenic and buzzing on a swell.
A calm, protected Blue-Flag bay — the safest local swimming and snorkelling beach.

- The Art Walk runs Thursday evenings roughly November–June; the plaza is quieter but lovely off-season.
- Flora Farms and Acre need reservations and a taxi/driver — they're up a dirt road in the foothills.
- Costa Azul is for surfers; for safe swimming choose Palmilla Bay.
Know Before You Go
November to June for the Art Walk and perfect weather. Winter is peak; late spring is quieter and still glorious.
Warm and dry; delightful winters and hot, humid summers. The estuary and foothills feel a touch greener than arid Cabo.
Los Cabos airport (SJD) is 15 minutes away — the closest of any Cabo town. The center is walkable; taxis and drivers reach the beaches, farms and corridor.
A calm, family-friendly town that's very safe to wander. Take normal care with surf at Costa Azul and Acapulquito.
